HERE IS A SERIES OF PICTURES SHOWING THE DEVELOPMENT OF AN ABSTRACT PIECE OF WORK FROM BLANK CANVAS TO FINISHED PIECE COMPLETED DURING TWO WEEKS AT THE END OF MARCH BEGINNING OF APRIL 2007
I have a fascination with the simplicity and complexity of the aboriginal art form known as Dream Painting. The use of simple repetitive mark making to produce literary pictures is almost a lost skill and not even recognised as "art" until relatively lately. The process of creating such work is therapeutic and the control required to maintain colour and tempo in the mark making can be amazingly exhausting.
This portrait of vocal artist STING is painted in acrylic on canvas. It is based on a photograph taken of him on his 5oth birthday. This work was sold recently at a charity auction.
